Being a member of the royal family means a life in the spotlight. For Meghan and Harry, this has definitely been the case, even after they stepped away from their public royal roles to live a more private lifestyle. Throughout the course of their relationship, the pair have been magnets for photographers and royal fans. While you may think you’ve seen quite a few photos of Meghan and Harry, you’d be surprised at some of the rare photos from behind-the-scenes that you haven’t seen before. From their royal tours, to spontaneous visits to various organizations, and special moments of affection in between, follow along for our roundup of rare photos of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex that you may have never seen.

12. Nelson Mandela International Day in July 2022

In July 2022, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were photographed attending the U.N. General Assembly annual celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day at United Nations headquarters. Prince Harry was the keynote speaker at the event. For the occasion, Meghan wore a simple black dress with her hair pulled into a sleek bun while Harry opted for a navy suit. This photo captures a rare candid moment of the two smiling together while seated during the U.N. event.

11. Invictus Games in April 2022

The Duke and Duchess attended the Invictus Games in April 2022. They were photographed here hugging Isa Johnston, a former army medic and amputee, at the Invictus Games venue in The Hague, Netherlands. The special moment made for an iconic photo since Johnston was holding a British flag behind her back as the photo was shot. Harry and Meghan are smiling happily as they embrace the athlete and congratulate her for winning gold in the shot put competition.

10. Invictus Games in April 2022

On April 16, 2022, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were photographed in an adorable candid moment while they screamed and cheered at the Invictus Games. In this particular moment, the royal couple was watching as a Romanian competitor crossed the finish line of the Land Rover Driving Challenge in The Hague, Netherlands. In the candid image, Meghan and Harry are clapping their hands in joy as they celebrate the exciting Invictus Games win with fans.

9. Moroccan Royal Federation of Equestrian Sports in February 2019

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Moroccan Royal Federation of Equestrian Sports in Rabat in February 2019. The pair stopped to stroke horses in their stables during the visit in the midst of their three-day royal tour in Morocco. For the casual occasion, Meghan opted for an olive green jacket with her hair pulled into a sleek ponytail. Harry opted for a similar casual look with a puffer-style bomber jacket. The couple met with trainers and learned about how equine therapy helps to support children with special needs.

8. Auckland, New Zealand in October 2018

During the fall of 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex participated in a 16-day royal tour of Australia and the South Pacific. During the tour, the couple was photographed in this adorable candid shot while they visited Auckland, New Zealand. In this photo, the couple is competing in a gumboot-throwing contest following a ceremony to dedicate a 20-hectare area of native bush to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy. Meghan looked happy and focussed as she tossed the red polka-dotted boot and Harry smiled supportingly behind her in the candid photo.

7. Sydney, Australia in October 2018

In October 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia during their 16-day royal tour of Australia and the South Pacific. In this special moment, Prince Harry and Meghan kneel down to greet young fans as they gift them bouquets of flowers. For the occasion, Meghan opted for a sleek white dress with nude heels while Harry opted for a sharp navy suit. The special moment is definitely reminiscent of Harry’s mother, Diana, and how lovingly she would greet and embrace her own fans.

6. Andalusian Gardens in February 2019

In February 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended an event to meet with local artisans and young entrepreneurs during their three-day royal tour in Morocco. The event took place in the Andalusian Gardens in Rabat, Morocco. In this photo, Harry is seen bowing to admire some of the traditional Moroccan arts and crafts. For the occasion, Meghan opted for a black pleated dress paired with a crisp white blazer, while Prince Harry opted for a light tan suit and brown shoes.

5. Mahalia Jackson School in September 2021

On September 24, 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited P.S. 123, the Mahalia Jackson School, in New York’s Harlem neighborhood. In this photo, Meghan is photographed reading her book “The Bench” to a group of second grade children, along with Prince Harry. For the special visit, Meghan opted for a maroon colored monochrome outfit, while Harry opted for a casual navy button up and tan pants. The kids certainly seem engulfed in Meghan’s story in this candid shot!

4. Redwoods Treewalk Rotorua in October 2018

In October 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Redwoods Treewalk Rotorua in Rotorua, New Zealand during their 16-day royal tour of Australia and the South Pacific. This particular photo was taken of Prince Harry and Meghan on the final day of their tour where they walked across a suspension bridge. For the occasion, Meghan opted for an oversized puffer coat paired with skinny jeans and flats, while Harry opted for a simple button down shirt and khakis.

3. Fiji Dinner in October 2018

In October 2018, Meghan and Harry stopped to wave to fans on a balcony as they arrived for an official dinner in Suva, Fiji during their 16-day tour of Australia and the South Pacific. This particular photo was captured on day eight of their journey. For the occasion, Meghan dressed in a long sleeve white dress which she paired with a fascinator, while Prince Harry looked dapper in a charcoal grey suit. The two held hands and happily waved to fans before attending their dinner for the evening.

2. Bondi Beach in October 2018

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were photographed clapping and cheering at Bondi Beach Australia on day four of their 16-day tour of Australia and the South Pacific. The couple met with a local surfing community group, known as OneWave, which helps to raise awareness for mental health and wellbeing. The couple were dressed in casual beachy outfits and wore leis around their neck to celebrate the team. Meghan and Harry listened to members’ stories of how the group has helped them and sat in the sand to participate in an “anti-bad vibe circle.”

1. Dubbo Airport in October 2018

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at Dubbo Airport in Australia on October 17, 2018 during their autumn tour of Australia. The adorable photo shows the Duchess embracing 5-year-old Luke Vincent from Buninyong Public School Kindergarten in New South Wales, Australia. The young boy handed Meghan a bouquet of flowers and the special moment was captured by photographers. Prince Harry looked adoringly from the sidelines as Meghan hugged the young boy during their visit.
