As more and more people are choosing to live a more natural life, they’re looking to change up old habits, and this includes their beauty routine. Face masks are a great way to pamper yourself right at home, without spending a fortune going to the spa. Commercially produced face masks are still a cheaper alternative to the spa, but many can still cost big bucks, and they can contain chemicals and pharmaceutical ingredients that some people would rather avoid putting on their face.

The answer to this is easy, and just involves a little DIY. With a few simple ingredients you can make a variety of all-natural face masks to make your skin, and yourself feel gorgeous! If you have sensitive or eczema prone skin, be careful and speak with your dermatologist first.

Here are eight all-natural DIY face mask recipes you can make yourself…

Anti-Aging Wine Mask

Ingredients:

1/4 cup white wine
1/4 cup kaolin clay
2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
1 tablespoon organic oat flour

Wine lovers are likely familiar with the fact that wine contains natural antioxidants, and these benefits are not only good for your insides, but also your outside! Resveratrol is the powerful antioxidant ingredient in this face mask that will help smooth wrinkles and fine lines. The kaolin clay can be found at health stores and draws out impurities in the skin. The grapeseed oil will moisturize, while the oat flour will act as a mild exfoliant. The make the mask, mix all ingredients in a small bowl until you have a chunky paste. Apply to face and neck, allow to dry for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Hydrating Strawberry Mask

Ingredients:

10 fresh strawberries
1/4 cup bee pollen
3 tablespoons raw honey
1 tablespoon olive oil mayonnaise
a few drops of lavender essential oil

Berries are jam-packed full of amazing nutrients and strawberries are high in vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids which exfoliate your skin. Combined with exfoliating bee pollen (available at health food stores), and moisturizing honey and olive oil, you can be sure this mask will deliver maximum moisture to your skin. The mayonnaise gives the whole mask a creamy, silky texture and the lavender oil provides relaxing aromatherapy.

To make this mask, mash the strawberries with a potato masher in a bowl until there are no large chunks. Then add in all other ingredients and mix until smooth. Apply to face, avoiding the eye area and allow to sit for 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Note** If you’re allergic to bees, make sure you omit the bee pollen in this recipe.

Skin Brightening Beer Mask

Ingredients:

1 egg white
1/2 cup beer (any brand will work)
2 teaspoons fresh lime juice

Wine isn’t the only alcoholic beverage that can provide skin-boosting benefits, beer is actually a skin soothing cleanser! It’s also filled with yeast and vitamin B which helps dissolve dead skin cells, improving your skin’s luminosity. The egg white provides hydrating moisture to help improve your skin’s elasticity, while the lime juice, rich in vitamin C, will help clear clogged pores and improve the appearance of dark spots. All these benefits from one bubbly beverage!

To make this mask, beat the egg white lightly until frothy. Add the beer and lime juice and mix. Apply to face and neck, avoiding the eyes, allow to dry for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Balancing Spirulina Mask

Ingredients:

1/2 teaspoon spirulina powder
1 ripe banana
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Have you ever felt that your skin wasn’t at an optimum balance? Sometimes our skin can feel too dry or too oily. This mask helps get everything back in check, all with a little help from a vibrant green powder. Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae used as a natural health supplement. It has antibacterial properties and contains more antioxidants than blueberries meaning it can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and reverse damage from the sun. The banana in this mask provides essential moisture while the vitamin C from the lemon juice will cleanse and brighten your skin.

To make the mask, mash the banana in a small bowl using a fork until no large lumps exist, whisk in the spirulina powder and lemon juice and mix until everything is incorporated. Apply to your face, avoiding the eyes, and leave to rest for 10-20 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Skin-Soothing Oatmeal Mask

Ingredients:

1/3 cup instant oatmeal (unflavored)
1/2 cup hot water
1 tablespoon honey
1-2 tablespoons, plain greek yogurt (unsweetened)

Winter weather, acne breakouts and aggravating eczema can all leave our skin rough, dry and irritated. This mask is designed to help smooth and soothe rough, dry skin using oatmeal, a natural skin calming ingredient. Combined with moisturizing honey and the revitalizing power of greek yogurt and this mask will soothe even the most irritated skin.

To make this mask, combine the oatmeal with the hot water and stir until it’s plumped and soft. Add the honey and yogurt and pour the entire mixture into a blender. Blend until combined and smooth, then slather all over the face. Allow to rest for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Detoxifying Mocha Mask

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons freshly ground coffee
2 tablespoons cacao powder
1 tablespoon honey
3 tablespoons greek yogurt

This mask not only does amazing things for your skin, but it also smells amazing! Fresh ground coffee and natural cacao powder will leave you with aromas of rich chocolate and coffee while the mask works its magic. The caffeine in the coffee will detoxify the skin and reduce puffiness while the antioxidants in the cacao powder will help reduce the effects of aging. Honey and greek yogurt provide revitalizing moisture for a mask that will rival even the best of spa treatments.

To make the mask, add all the ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Spread evenly over the face and neck and allow it to rest for about 10 minutes. Massage face lightly while rinsing off with warm water to get great exfoliating benefits from the coffee grinds.

Manly Man Mask

Ingredients:

1/2 a cucumber
1-2 tablespoons greek yogurt

Anyone who believes face masks are just for women should think again. This soothing, moisturizing face mask recipe will work wonders for even the manliest of men. Guys have a tendency to ignore their skin health and as a result, they can end up with rough, dry or damaged skin. Plus daily shaving can leave men with redness and irritating razor burn. Cucumber has a natural calming and cooling effect and can reduce redness while providing necessary moisture along with the greek yogurt.

To make the mask, peel, seed and chop the cucumber, then put through a food processor until it’s a pulpy puree. Mix in the greek yogurt by hand and spread evenly over face and neck. Allow to rest for 10-20 minutes (feel free to place some cucumber slices over your eyes for a real ‘spa experience’) then rinse with warm water. Of course women are welcome to try this mask as well.

Moisturizing Avocado Mask

Ingredients:

1/2 ripe avocado
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon coconut oil, melted

Avocados have seemed to work their way into every facet of our lives, there’s just something about the rich creamy texture that everyone loves and this DIY face mask recipe is no exception. The avocado, rich in healthy fats and oils combined with the nourishing properties of honey and coconut oil, moisturizes dry, flaky skin and leaves it feeling softer and smoother than ever before.

To make the mask, mash the avocado with a fork or puree in a food processor for a super smooth texture. Then stir in the honey and melted coconut oil and spread evenly over entire face and neck. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then wipe off with a damp cloth and rinse face with warm water.
