Endometriosis is a condition affecting women, primarily women of reproductive age. It is characterized by the lining of the uterus extending beyond the uterine cavity down into the abdomen. Potential complications include the development of uterine cysts and fertility problems. The symptoms of endometriosis include recurrent pain in the pelvic region, a frequent and urgent need to urinate, abdominal pain, lower back pain, pain during sexual intercourse, and throbbing pain extending down into the legs. While there is no cure currently available for endometriosis, a number of management options are available, including hormonal and anti-inflammatory medications, and surgical treatments designed to remove the uterus lining from the abdomen.
