Regional enteritis or Crohn’s disease is a condition which affects the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms are widely varied, depending on which part of the tract is affected. It is believed to have a strong genetic component, though environmental factors, diet and the presence of certain microorganisms are believed to play roles as well. Some of the common signs and symptoms of Crohn’s disease include inconsistencies in the feces and irregular bowel movements, weight loss, diarrhea, fatigue and stomach cramps. Individuals with Crohn’s disease are at increased risk for developing colon cancer, and as such, early intervention and proper management are vital.
