Back Pain

Back pain presents in many forms, and has a wide range of causes. It can be acute or chronic. Acute back pain is typically caused by muscle strains which result from improper performance of physical activities involving the back muscles. Chronic back pain is usually the result of ongoing lifestyle or behavioral factors, such as repetitive stress, poor posture or prolonged periods of inactivity. Treatment depends on the nature of the back pain, but typically involves a combination of over-the-counter or prescription drugs which reduce inflammation and relax the back muscles, as well as lifestyle or activity alterations. Physical therapy is also recommended in cases of chronic back pain.
