8 Common Symptoms of a Yeast Infection

Featured, Mobile Slider Featured, Women, Your Health

Any unfortunate woman who’s suffered with the burning, itching, lingering pain of a yeast infection knows how important it is to treat the infection at the first signs of an issue. Even though yeast infections share similar symptoms to many sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)—vaginal irritation, itching, pain, burning, and thick discharge—a yeast infection is caused by the overgrowth of yeast, called Candida Albicans, within the vagina and vulva. Only your physician can verify that your troubles are caused by a yeast infection and not another vaginal infection (i.e., bacterial vaginosis or BV) or an STD.

Here are the eight commonly annoying signs that you might be victim to a yeast infection…

1. Vaginal Itching

The most tell tale sign of a yeast infection is that constant vaginal itch that just won’t stop! Typically, itching is fairly constant, but it can get very severe if the infection spreads around the vulva (the vaginal opening), labia and anus. Keep in mind that itching due to yeast infection is similar to the same itch felt with several other health conditions, such as trichomoniasis (an STI) and bacterial vaginosis, a bacterial infection of the vagina.

The most common site of itch for yeast infections is in the area of irritation, which focuses right around the vaginal opening, at the vulva. Pain and intense itch are also common during urination when the vulva can be irritated further. You may also notice swelling and redness, along with itching around the tissues of the vaginal opening and vulva. And many women also notice a thick, white, clumpy discharge.
