Since their introduction to the North American market in 2006, electronic cigarettes (or e-cigarettes) have been touted as the safer alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes. Although, despite the fact that they’ve saved many smokers a great deal of money, many leading American health agencies aren’t convinced e-cigarettes are entirely safe.

1. Health Claims Haven’t Been Established
With hundreds of U.S. companies manufacturing and selling e-cigarettes as the “safer alternative to tobacco” (not to mention those manufacturers making and selling them overseas), healthy bodies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have yet to test the thousands of options for specific health or safety claims.
