We all have an itch once in a while…but what’s causing it may leave us scratching our heads. While there’s often no cause for concern when you have a bout of itchiness, there are other times your skin may be trying to tell you something.
Itchiness could be from contaminants in your environment or an allergic reaction from food. Identifying the source of your itch can be the first step in getting rid of it—when scratching just doesn’t do the trick. Let’s take a look at nine health reasons you may be scratching…
1. Milk Allergies
HealthLine.com notes that the essence of cow (namely, milk) may be the reason you’re feeling itchy. Some people have an “immune reaction to one of the many proteins in animal milk,” and most commonly the S1-Casein protein found in bovine milk, notes the source.
There can be many other symptoms attached to a milk allergy, such as stomach cramps, coughing or a runny nose. However, you may also develop a skin rash. If you have a combination of these symptoms, try avoiding milk for a while or see a doctor to assess the source.
