La diabetes es una serie de trastornos metabólicos que comparten una particularidad; en todos los casos, los niveles de glucosa en sangre se elevan de forma considerable. Si no se trata a tiempo, esta afección puede causar enfermedades cardiovasculares, accidentes cerebrovasculares, insuficiencia renal, úlceras y lesiones en los ojos. Existen dos tipos de diabetes: la de tipo 1, en la que el páncreas no produce cantidades suficientes de insulina y la de tipo 2, en la que las células reaccionan de manera inusual a la insulina.

Lograr controlar este tipo de complicaciones de salud es un gran desafío, tanto para los que las sufren como para los médicos. No obstante, incorporar ciertos alimentos a su dieta puede mejorar considerablemente la calidad de vida de los diabéticos…

1. Manzanas

El famoso refrán de “Si quieres tener vida sana, come mucha manzana” se aplica perfectamente a la diabetes, ya que estas frutas están repletas de fibra (por ende, se sentirá satisfecho por más tiempo), son bajas en calorías, combaten el colesterol dañino (LDL) y contienen azúcares naturales que regularizan sus niveles de glucosa en sangre.

Ante un ataque de hambre repentino, opte por las manzanas naturales — evite consumir las que vienen enlatadas y los zumos, debido a que están repletos de azúcar, colorantes y saborizantes.
